How we calculate

A typical price is the median price paid for one unit (a can, a long neck, a bottle, a glass of draught), counting only the everyday price: no happy hour, promotion, bucket or open bar. At bars, prices checked in the last 30 days count; at shops, receipts of the last 14 days. Each figure needs at least 5 places, and bars, supermarkets and depósitos are kept apart, because a shop's price is a take-away price.

Limitations: coverage is uneven. Bars that issue electronic receipts in the neighbourhoods with the most recorded sales show up more; street botecos, vendors and beach kiosks still have few prices. More on the limitations
